Breathing Exercise 呼吸练习

Breathing Before Surgery 手术前的呼吸练习

Pre-surgery anxiety is nearly universal. The 4-7-8 technique is one of the most clinically validated breathing patterns for acute anxiety, significantly reducing cortisol in the minutes before procedures.

How to Practice

  1. Begin 10–20 minutes before you're taken to the operating area. Lie comfortably in your bed.
  2. Place one hand on your belly. Close your eyes if permitted.
  3. Inhale quietly through your nose for 4 seconds, letting your belly rise beneath your hand.
  4. Hold your breath gently for 7 seconds — this phase deepens the calming effect significantly.
  5. Exhale completely through your mouth for 8 seconds. Repeat 4–6 cycles or as directed by staff.
