How to Practice
- When an intrusive thought appears, notice it without acting on it. Label it: 'That is a thought, not a fact.'
- Place one hand on your belly and inhale through your nose for 4 counts.
- Exhale slowly through your mouth for 6 counts, letting the anxiety ride the out-breath.
- Repeat 4–6 cycles. The goal is not to eliminate the thought but to reduce the urgency you feel.
- After breathing, return to your activity without performing a compulsion.
